Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Within the field of psychology there is a relatively new branch known as positive psychology. Positive psychology uses scientific research and understanding to study the conditions and processes that contribute to the flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups and institutions.

We offer two certificates specific to the scientific evidence and applied interventions of positive psychology:

These certificates explore evidence-based best practices, supporting positive mental health and well-being in workplaces, educational settings and for personal growth and resilience. Graduates of the certificates will use validated measures of well-being and tested interventions to promote optimal learning and flourishing environments. Activities, assignments and a capstone project help participants apply the different concepts and strategies to their own settings.

The two certificates share the first two modules before splitting into the two streams. The Positive Psychology Certificate is a 23-week program while the Positive Education Certificate is a total of 16 weeks.

“This course, and the field of positive psychology in general, offers so many great insights that can immediately be applied in our context to help people thrive in their relationships with patients and the people in their lives, in their interactions with their coworkers and teams, and in their own self-care and development.”

Janice Hendrick, Organizational Development Consultant, Brant Community Healthcare System

Learning Online

We recognize the challenges of fitting learning opportunities into your busy lives. All of the Positive Psychology Certificate modules are administered online and therefore reliable web access is important. The amount of time required online will vary with each course but we recommend budgeting 5-7 hours per week to start and then you can adjust from there.

Laurier uses MyLearningSpace by Desire2Learn to deliver each module. Desire2Learn’s teaching and learning technologies are used by more than 1,100 clients and 15 million learners in higher education, K-12, healthcare, government, and the enterprise sector.

You can complete a browser system check to ensure MyLearningSpace will work on your browser.
