The Centre for Public Safety and Well-Being is a growing continuing-education centre created by the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences. We plan to offer exciting learning opportunities through professional development programs for people working or aspiring to work in a wide range of industries, including public safety, health, and wellness and well-being.
The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences has built strong partnerships with organizations, government agencies and postsecondary institutions, both locally and internationally, to bring together the best of teaching and learning as well as incorporating real-life needs and experience through online and blended formats.
Last winter, we launched our first online certificate in Positive Psychology, which uses science to understand how we can move our emotions and thinking from a neutral state to a more positive, flourishing state. Front-line workers, first responders and those in the education, health and social service sectors will find this program will help them to build resilience, manage their emotions, deal with stress, and promote life satisfaction and well-being.
Our Situation Table training has been used by police services, government agencies and officials, health care, social services and postsecondary institutions as part of their curriculum. Check it out – it's free!
This January, we launched Emerging Practices in Ontario Policing envisioned by the Sault Sainte Marie Police Service and in collaboration with the Ontario Police College.
As the centre grows, we will continue to add more exciting and relevant programming. Check back often to find out about our newest offerings. If you are having trouble finding training or professional development opportunities within a specific field, let us know and we’ll explore it!
