Faculty of Music

About the Faculty

Laurier’s renowned Faculty of Music is dedicated to fostering artistic and scholarly development of the highest calibre and to providing a creative environment for student success. Our students, faculty and outside artists present upwards of 100 concerts and events a year to the public.

COVID-19 Update

Due to the coronavirus (COVID‑19) situation, the Faculty of Music is temporarily discontinuing in-person instruction. Most Wilfrid Laurier University facilities are physically closed. We are working remotely to serve our students and our community.

For the latest updates, visit wlu.ca/coronavirus.

We offer two undergraduate programs: a Bachelor of Music and Ontario’s only Bachelor of Music Therapy. The Bachelor of Music offers many concentrations such as composition, music education, integrated musical arts, music history, theory and critical analysis, performance, self-directed studies and Canada’s first in community music.

Our graduate programs include a Master of Music Therapy and a Master of Arts in Community Music. We also offer two diploma programs: a Chamber Music Diploma and an Opera Diploma.

Research Centres

We are home to two research centres. Learn more by visiting the Manfred and Penny Conrad Institute for Music Therapy Research and the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community sites.

We provide a variety of service and engagement opportunities for the community. You can hire a student musician or group to perform, book a student-led music therapy session, or participate in the Arts Express Summer Camp. For additional services or if you have questions, contact choosemusic@wlu.ca.

Laurier Conservatory

The Laurier Conservatory houses our non-curricular and community-based programming, such as music lessons or specialized workshops. For upcoming concerts of these programs, check out our concerts and events page.

Making Space for Music

The Making Space for Music campaign will transform our current facilities into vastly improved spaces for practicing, rehearsing and performing – providing more opportunities for music students to develop their craft and enabling the public to play a greater part in Laurier’s music programming.
