    You’re investing in your future by getting a university education, and we want to invest in you. We have several funding opportunities available for you throughout your degree, including some that are specifically for your first year.

    What Scholarships Are Available at Laurier?

    We offer entrance scholarships, in-course scholarships and more than 700 competitive scholarships and awards to provide you with financial support in all years of your degree. Scholarships and awards are available for domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students, and can vary by applicant type:

    Entrance Scholarships

    When you apply to Laurier, you’re automatically considered for an entrance scholarship if you are:

    • Attending postsecondary for the first time.
    • Starting your degree at Laurier with fewer than 4.0 university credits previously attempted (at any university) or less than 1 year of full-time college education.

    Entrance scholarships are offered based on your admission average as of July 2027. No application is required. We list the entrance scholarship you receive (and the conditions you need to meet to receive the scholarship) on your offer letter.

    If you are not eligible for an entrance scholarship, you may be eligible for other scholarships, awards and bursaries.

    Scholarship values are subject to change. This scholarship grid is valid for incoming students beginning in September 2027 and after.

    *Domestic Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and BBA double-degree students are eligible for entrance scholarships with an admission average of 90% and higher.

    **This entrance scholarship is the President's Gold Scholarship.

    Requirements to Receive Your Entrance Scholarship

    You must be registered full-time (2.0 credits minimum per term) to receive the full entrance scholarship amount and you must be registered in two terms within your first academic year (an academic year at Laurier is from September to August). The value of your entrance scholarship is split between your first two terms of study.

    President's Gold Scholarship

    The President’s Gold Scholarship is a merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to students with an entrance average of 95% or higher. This scholarship is also renewable in your upper years, if you meet the renewal requirements.

    Eligibility Requirements

    If your final admission average is 95% or higher as of July 2027, we will award you with the President’s Gold Scholarship for your first year at Laurier. The scholarship is worth $4,000 for domestic students and $6,000 for international students.

    This scholarship is renewable in your upper years if you achieve an annual grade point average (GPA) of 10.5 or higher based on the completion of a minimum of 5.0 full credits during the past academic year. The renewable scholarship amount is $4,000 (domestic) or $6,000 (international) per year for four years (or up to five years for approved double-degree programs).

    Students who receive the President's Gold Scholarship are not eligible to receive in-course scholarships. See the full eligibility requirements to maintain your President’s Gold Scholarship.

    Applying For and Receiving the President's Gold Scholarship

    You are automatically assessed for the President’s Gold Scholarship; no additional application is required.

    You must be registered full time, and you must be registered in two terms in your first academic year to receive the full scholarship amount. A full-time course load is minimum 2.0 credits per term and an academic year at Laurier is from September to August.

    Your scholarship will be applied directly to your student account. You must be registered in courses and have a tuition charge showing on your Laurier account to receive the scholarship. See the full details on receiving your scholarship.

    Entrance Bursaries

    Entrance bursaries are financial awards available to you in your first year of study and don’t have to be paid back. Some bursaries are automatically awarded if you meet requirements, and some require a separate application.

    The new Milton Entrance Admissions Bursary, valued at $2,000 CAD, is a one-time entrance bursary for eligible students who are starting their in-person undergraduate studies in fall 2027 at Laurier Milton. The bursary is stackable with other scholarships and bursaries.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The Milton Entrance Admissions Bursary is open to:

    • First-year, full-time undergraduate students (including transfer students) who have received and accepted an offer to an in-person program at Laurier’s Milton campus.
      • Eligible students must also demonstrate financial need by submitting an OSAP application.
      • There is no minimum admission average required to be eligible for the bursary.
    • Fully online programs, as well as graduate and Bachelor of Education programs, are not eligible. 
    • International students are ineligible for this bursary

    Applying and Receiving the Scholarship

    Eligible students are automatically considered for the bursaries. No additional application is required. To demonstrate financial need, you must submit an OSAP application and all required documents by August 2027.

    To be eligible:

    • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident protected person or refugee and be a resident of Ontario.
    • You must also have received and accepted an offer for undergraduate studies at Laurier’s Milton campus.
    • You must be registered in two terms in your first academic year to receive the bursary. A full-time course load is minimum 2.0 credits per term (or the approved reduced course load registration outlined by your accommodation plan with Accessible Learning) and an academic year at Laurier is September to April.
    • You must begin your studies in fall 2027 and remain registered at Laurier Milton (in person) for the entirety of your first year.

    We’ll contact successful students in October 2027 to confirm their receipt of the bursary. The full amount of the bursary will be applied to successful students’ winter 2027 term invoice, which will be issued in December 2027. See the full details on receiving your bursary.

    The new Brantford Entrance Admissions Bursary, valued at $2,000 CAD, is a one-time entrance bursary for eligible students who are starting their in-person undergraduate studies in fall 2027 at Laurier Brantford. The bursary is stackable with other scholarships and bursaries.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The Brantford Entrance Admissions Bursary is open to:

    • First-year, full-time undergraduate students (including transfer students) who have received and accepted an offer to an in-person program at Laurier’s Brantford campus.
      • Eligible students must also demonstrate financial need by submitting an OSAP application.
      • There is no minimum admission average required to be eligible for the bursary.
    • Fully online programs, as well as graduate and Bachelor of Education programs, are not eligible. 
    • International students are ineligible for this bursary.

    Applying For and Receiving the Scholarship

    The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary is a renewable bursary valued at a minimum of $5,000 CAD per academic year and is exclusive to students beginning any full-time undergraduate program at Laurier’s Milton campus.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary is open to undergraduate students starting their first year of studies (full-time) at Laurier Milton in fall 2027, and who have graduated high school within the last three years. Applicants must also be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, and be able to demonstrate financial need. This bursary can be combined with other entrance scholarships, bursaries and awards.

    All students who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered, however first preference for the bursary will be granted to applicants with a home address in the Halton Region. 

    Applying For and Receiving the Scholarship

    The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary requires a separate application. Applications open on Jan. 15, 2027, and the deadline to apply has been extended to May 11, 2027. Applications are submitted through LORIS.     The application for the Joyce Family Foundation Bursary at Laurier Milton Campus will include: 

    • A 500-word personal statement sharing personal circumstances which can speak to your resilience and determination in the face of adversity and potential for success in your postsecondary studies.
    • A completed full-time financial aid application (e.g., OSAP, Out-of-Province/Territorial Funding) on file as of early July. Financial aid eligibility will be confirmed in early fall, following the review of submitted applications.

    To renew this bursary in your upper years (if granted in your first year), you must continue to be registered full time at Laurier Milton, maintain a minimum GPA of 4.0 (C-) and continue to demonstrate financial need. You also must commit to working with student support services and submit a brief report on your involvement with the service each year.

    Entrance Awards

    Entrance awards are available to first-year students who meet the eligibility requirements. These awards require a separate application.

    The Hallman Foundation Scholars Award is a renewable award available exclusively to students living in the Region of Waterloo at the time of accepting an offer of admission. The award is worth $40,000 CAD with $10,000 being awarded each year of a four-year degree. The goal of this award is to provide financial support to students who might not otherwise be able to study in higher education.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The Hallman Foundation Scholars Award is open to students residing in the Region of Waterloo at the time of accepting their offer to start in their first year of studies (full-time) at Laurier in fall 2027. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need. This award can be combined with other entrance scholarships, bursaries and awards.

    Applying For and Receiving the Scholarship

    To renew this bursary in your upper years (if granted in your first year), you must continue to be registered full time at Laurier (any campus), maintain a minimum GPA of 4.0 (C-) and continue to demonstrate financial need. Note that students who are enrolled in a five-year program are eligible to receive funding for all five years.

    The CIBC STEM Entrance Award, valued at $5,000 CAD, is an exciting opportunity for full-time undergraduate students entering their first year at Laurier. Aimed at promoting access in STEM fields, this scholarship is awarded annually to 15 recipients.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The CIBC STEM Entrance Award is open to first-year students who identify as Black, Indigenous and/or have disabilities and who demonstrate financial need. Priority is given to students entering STEM programs, though all first-year students are welcome to apply.

    There is no minimum admission average required to receive the scholarship. 

    Applying For and Receiving the Scholarship

    The CIBC STEM Entrance Award requires a separate application. Applications open on Jan. 15, 2027, and the deadline to apply has been extended to May 11, 2027.     You must be registered full time, and you must be registered in two terms in your first academic year to receive the full scholarship amount. A full-time course load is minimum 2.0 credits per term and an academic year at Laurier is from September to August.

    In-Course Scholarships

    In-course scholarships recognize academic excellence and are assessed on your grades from the previous academic year at Laurier. These scholarships are awarded in your upper years at Laurier.

    At that end of your first year at Laurier, you will be automatically considered for in-course scholarships based on your Laurier GPA (grade point average). In-course scholarships are valued at $1,250 to $1,500 annually for domestic students and $5,000 annually for international students. In-course scholarships begin at a GPA of 10.5 and above (or approximately 82.5% and above) for domestic students and 7.0 and above (or approximately 70% and above) for international students. 

    In-Course Scholarship Amounts and Eligibility

    At the end of your first year, you will be automatically considered for an in-course scholarship based on your Laurier grade point average (GPA).

    To be eligible for an in-course scholarship, domestic students require a minimum 10.5 GPA and international students require a minimum 7.0 GPA.

    Students who received the President’s Gold Scholarship are not eligible for in-course scholarships.

    Competitive Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

    Every year, including for your first year, you can apply for competitive scholarships, awards and bursaries. The amounts of these awards will vary, and some may be specific to your campus or program of study. These awards can also be stacked with your entrance scholarships. 

    Eligibilty requirements may vary across different competitive scholarships, awards and bursaries. You can find descriptions of the award opportunities, as well as eligibility criteria, on the Student Awards Search Engine.

    Applying For Awards

    To apply for these awards, you can complete up to two profiles about yourself. Awards are granted based on the information you provide, including your interest, involvement, financial need, academic achievement and more.

    The application process begins in July, and you can complete the profiles after you accept your offer.

    The amount of any awards you receive will be applied directly to your student account. Different awards may have different dates for when you will receive them; you can see the full disbursement schedule in LORIS. 

    Applying for Bursary Supports

    Bursary supports are available for first-year and upper-year students based on financial need. There are opportunities to apply for bursaries throughout the academic year. A separate application is required.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    The President's Gold Scholarship is renewable. Students who do not receive President's Gold Scholarship will be automatically considered for our in-course scholarships in their upper years at Laurier. Depending on your GPA, you could receive between $1,250 and $1,500 annually (domestic students) or $5,000 annually (international students).

    Your scholarship average is the same as your admission average, which may include your grades in any required courses. Learn how to calculate your admission average.

    Your scholarship will be automatically applied to your fee invoice. The amount of your scholarship award is split between your first two terms of study. These two terms must be within the same calendar year (Laurier's academic calendar year in September to August, and there are three terms: fall, winter and spring) and you must be registered in full-time courses (2.0 credits) in each term of the two terms to receive your full entrance scholarship amount.

    We will use your final grades as of the beginning of July 2027. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.

    Scholarships, awards and bursaries that require an application may have different deadlines. Check the dates and deadlines for award applications as well as the information for individual competitive scholarships to find due dates.

    Entrance scholarships, entrance bursaries and in-course scholarships are automatically assessed, so you don’t have to submit any application by a deadline.

    If you are an international undergraduate student, you’re automatically assessed for entrance scholarships when you apply to Laurier and for in-course scholarships as you progress through your degree.     We also offer the Inspiring Lives Scholarship, which is available exclusively to international undergraduate students beginning their first year at Laurier. This scholarship is worth up to $5,000 CAD and requires a separate application.
