Nguyen (Nathan) Vo has a PhD in Biology from the University of Waterloo (UW). He received the W.B. Pearson Medal for creative doctoral research. Following his doctorate, he conducted further scientific research at McMaster University, WLU, UW, and the University of Windsor. He has previously been in a senior scientific advisory/consulting role for two start-up biotechnology companies in the emerging field of cellular agriculture and aquaculture.
Vo is widely known for his prolific career of creating animal cell lines for basic and applied biomedical research.
Vo was Laurier Alumni Association's Young Alumnus of the Year for 2017.
He received the Ontario Minister of Colleges and Universities' Award of Excellence for teaching excellence in 2020.
In 2021, he conducted community-based research at UW where he studied COVID-19 antibody immunity levels in a campus population and in hospitalized patient cohorts. This project is part of the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force by the Government of Canada.
He joined the Department of Health Studies at Laurier Brantford in 2022 as a full-time faculty member.
Vo is an interdisciplinary scientist with a research portfolio spanning multiple fields including cell biology, virology, immunology, radiation biology, and forensic science.
Current research projects are in cell biology, immunology, and forensic science.
Dr. Vo supports a number of research positions in his research group. Interested students who wish to gain hands-on laboratory skills are welcome to contact him for available research positions. He welcomes students from different academic and personal backgrounds to develop research projects with him, especially to enrich their studies with further scientific education and training.
