Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Entrance Scholarships

We know that university can be expensive, not only in first year, but throughout your time at Laurier. We’ve responded to concerns about the rising cost of higher education by offering financial support for students through a variety of different programs.

Awards from the Entrance Scholarship Grid (below) are available to students who are entering year 1 of any undergraduate program and who have never previously attended a postsecondary institution. Recipients must be registered full-time (2.0 credits minimum per term) and in order to receive the full entrance scholarship amount, must be registered in two terms within their first academic year. No application is required.

These awards are offered based on your best six final grade 12 U/M marks (or equivalent) as of June 30, 2018. Students who receive an offer of admission and who are on the scholarship grid based on their average at the time of admission will be notified of their projected entrance scholarship on the offer of admission. Entrance scholarships will be finalized in July once your final grades have been received. You may not hold more than one entrance scholarship from the entrance scholarship grid (below). We anticipate some program-specific awards will be offered and added to the value of the entrance scholarships on the grid. For students entering double-degree programs, such as our Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Computer Science, you will be assessed for an entrance scholarship using the program classification having the higher dollar value (in this example, you will be assessed using the program classification "Science").

President's Gold Scholarship

If your average is 95% or higher in your top six grade 12 U/M courses (or equivalent) as of June 30, 2018, we will award you with the President's Gold Scholarship, which is worth $5,000, for your first year at Laurier. If you maintain the eligibility requirements, you will receive another $5,000 per year for years two through four (five for some programs).

This scholarship is automatically renewable if you achieve an annual GPA of 10.5 or higher based on completion of a minimum of 5.0 full credits during the past academic year. Students who receive the President's Gold Scholarship are not eligible to receive in-course scholarships.

In-Course Scholarships

In years two through four (five for some programs), you will be automatically considered for in-course scholarships based on your academic GPA (grade point average), which are valued between $500 and $1,500 annually. In-course scholarships begin at a GPA of 10.0 and above (or approximately 80% and above).

Commonly Asked Questions

Are any scholarships renewable?

The only renewable scholarship is the President's Gold Scholarship. Students who do not receive President's Gold will be automatically considered for our in-course scholarships in their upper years at Laurier. Depending on your GPA, you could receive between $500 and $1,500 annually.

How do you calculate my average for the entrance scholarship?

We calculate your average based on your final grades in your top six 4U/M (or equivalent) courses as of June 30, 2018.

When will I receive my entrance scholarship?

Your scholarship will be automatically applied to your fee invoice. The award will be split between the fall and winter terms.

Can I upgrade my courses in the summer and receive an increased scholarship?

We will use your top six 4U/M (or equivalent) final grades as of June 30, 2018. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.

Entrance Bursaries

Based solely on financial need, entrance bursaries are worth a maximum of $2,000 and do not need to be repaid. Once you have applied to Laurier through OUAC, you can apply for a bursary until the deadline. Entrance bursaries are not eligible to students who have previously attended a postsecondary institution or if they will be studying on an international student visa.

Other Entrance Scholarships

Entrance scholarships and awards are available to students entering their first year of a full-time program at Laurier who have no previous attendance at postsecondary educational institutions (university or college).

Some entrance scholarships and awards are only available to students entering Laurier’s Brantford campus. We also have award opportunities that are specific to a program of study. Descriptions of Laurier’s awards opportunities are listed on the Student Awards Search Engine, and each description will indicate if it is an award or a scholarship, as well as the eligibility criteria for each.
