Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Wilfrid Laurier University researchers are deeply engaged in their communities. As part of Laurier’s strategy to foster enriching partnerships, the university is strengthening its partnership with Community-Based Research (CBR) Canada, a national champion and facilitator of community-based research.
CBR Canada employees have moved their operations to Laurier’s Waterloo campus. The university is providing the organization with office space, information and communication technology and support, and in-kind assistance from Laurier staff and students.
“We are delighted to welcome CBR Canada to Laurier and support their efforts to advance community-based research across Canada,” says Jonathan Newman, vice-president: research at Laurier. “This is a shared commitment, and our new proximity will allow for more meaningful collaboration.”
Laurier is a dedicated member of CBR Canada, and its researchers have strong connections to the organization. Laurier faculty members Ann Marie Beals, Ardavan Eizadirad and Ciann Wilson have presented webinars to CBR Canada’s national network in recent years. In 2021, Assistant Professor Maryam Khan was recognized with the Emerging Community-Based Researcher Award.
“As CBR Canada continues to evolve and grow, we are humbled and honoured to partner with Laurier,” says Stephen Dooley, CBR Canada co-chair. “We know the partnership will create reciprocal benefits for both organizations and, most importantly, enhance support for community-university collaborations that are at the heart of community engaged scholarship.”
