Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Entrance Scholarships

Awards from the entrance scholarship grid (below) are available to students who are entering their first year of any undergraduate program and attending postsecondary for the first time.

These awards are offered based on your admission averages as of July 6, 2021. No application is required.

You must be registered full-time (2.0 credits minimum per term) to receive the full entrance scholarship amount and you must be registered in two terms within your first academic year (an academic year at the university is from September to April). The value of your entrance scholarship is split between your first two terms of study.

Note: Scholarship values are subject to change. This scholarship grid is for admissions beginning in September 2021 and after.

President's Gold Scholarship

If your average is 95% or higher, we will award you with the President's Gold Scholarship, which is worth $4,000, for your first year at Laurier. If you maintain the eligibility requirements, you will receive another $4,000 per year for Years 2 through 4 (up to Year 5 for some programs).

This scholarship is automatically renewable if you achieve an annual GPA of 10.5 or higher based on the completion of a minimum of 5.0 full credits during the past academic year. Students who receive the President's Gold Scholarship are not eligible to receive in-course scholarships.

New Laurier Scholars Awards

Starting in Fall 2021, a new prestigious scholarship, available to first-year direct entry undergraduate students registered in full-time studies, will be awarded to a select number of students. The scholarship is renewable, meaning recipients who maintain the renewal requirements will receive a maximum of $40,000 over the course of their undergraduate degree program.

We will invite students who meet the requirements to submit an application.

More information on the eligibility requirements will be available soon.

In-Course Scholarships

In Years 2 through 4 (up to Year 5 for some programs), you will be automatically considered for in-course scholarships based on your academic GPA, which are valued between $500 and $1,500 annually. In-course scholarships begin at a GPA of 10.0 and above (or approximately 80% and above).

Other Entrance Scholarships

Entrance scholarships and awards are available to students entering their first year of a full-time program at Laurier who have no previous attendance at postsecondary educational institutions (university or college).

Some entrance scholarships and awards are only available to students entering Laurier’s Brantford campus. We also have award opportunities that are specific to a program of study. Descriptions of Laurier’s awards opportunities are listed on the Student Awards Search Engine, and each description will indicate if it is an award or a scholarship, as well as the eligibility criteria for each.

Competitive Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

Every year, you can apply for competitive scholarships, awards and bursaries by completing an online student profile about yourself. Awards are granted based on the information you provide, including your interests, involvement, financial need, academic achievement and more. The application process begins in June and there are up to three profiles to complete once you accept your offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are any scholarships renewable?

The President's Gold Scholarship is renewable. Students who do not receive President's Gold Scholarship will be automatically considered for our in-course scholarships in their upper years at Laurier. Depending on your GPA, you could receive between $500 and $1,500 annually.

Our new $10,000 awards will also be renewable. More details are coming soon regarding our new scholarship!

How do you calculate my average for the entrance scholarship?

Your scholarship average is the same as your admission average, which may include your grades in any required courses. Learn how to calculate your admission average.

When will I receive my entrance scholarship?

Your scholarship will be automatically applied to your fee invoice. The amount of your scholarship award is split between your first two terms of study. These two terms must be within the same calendar year (Laurier's calendar year in September to August) and you must be registered in full-time courses (4.0 credits) each term to receive your full entrance scholarship amount.

Can I upgrade my courses in the summer and receive an increased scholarship?

We will use your final grades as of July 6, 2021. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.
