I have been singing for as long as I can remember and much time was spent in my formulative years singing in school choirs, church choirs and the Inter Mennonite Children’s Choir. I earned my Honours Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Wilfrid Laurier in 2001, and have been singing professionally and teaching privately ever since.
As an accomplished concert soloist, my repertoire ranges from early music to contemporary, and I perform regularly with choirs and orchestras large and small throughout Ontario and across Canada. I am a member of the Hamilton based ensemble Capella Intima, which specializes in performing exciting concerts of lesser known 17th century vocal and operatic music, as well as the Spiritus Ensemble. In addition to performing with large and small ensembles, I also delight in the art of the solo recital and collaborate frequently with lutenist Magdalena Tomsinska and pianist Lorin Shalanko.
As a private voice teacher since 2001, I have had the opportunity to work with singers with widely ranging abilities. From beginner to advanced, I am comfortable encouraging all students to find their voices. I have adjudicated at the Guelph and Lambton County Kiwanis Music Festivals, and am a past para-professional at Eastwood Collegiate in their vocal performance program.
When I am not teaching, rehearsing or performing, I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my three growing children and my hilarious husband.
I believe that anyone and everyone can sing! Though we are not all destined to be soloists, singing is something that can bring much joy and fulfillment to one’s life. I take delight in helping each student find his or her own unique voice, and in helping each student to strengthen and grow in their singing abilities and musicality.
