Originally from Seoul, South Korea, I am a pianist and music therapist who has cherished music for as long as I can remember. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Seoul National University and a Master of Music Therapy from Ewha Womans University. Since the age of ten, I have joyfully served as a church accompanist, and through music, I have experienced the beauty of connection, comfort, and self-expression.
For over ten years in South Korea, I taught students of various ages through private lessons and worked as a music teacher at a private school. After moving to Canada, I continued teaching piano lessons in Montreal for two years and am now grateful to continue my musical journey in Waterloo.
Alongside teaching, I am currently preparing for my Canadian music therapy certification while completing internships at Sunbeam Community Centre, Luther Village on the Park, and KW Habilitation. I also serve as an accompanist at KW Joonim Church.
As an educator, my greatest joy is helping students discover confidence, creativity, and personal growth through music. I believe learning piano is not simply about playing the right notes, but about developing patience, perseverance, and the ability to express oneself meaningfully. My hope is to create a warm and encouraging environment where every student can experience the unique joy that music brings.
For me, teaching is a deeply collaborative journey of mutual growth; I find that I am constantly learning and drawing inspiration alongside my students. Every individual, regardless of their age or musical background, brings a unique set of interests, strengths, and stories to the piano.
Because of this, I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Drawing from my background in music therapy, I strive to tailor each lesson to the student's unique personality and learning style. Above all, I believe that music is a universal language of connection. Regardless of one’s technical skill level, anyone can communicate, express their innermost feelings, and build meaningful bonds through music.
Whether a student is diligently preparing for an RCM examination or simply exploring the piano for personal enjoyment, I incorporate a diverse range of musical styles and experiences into our sessions. My ultimate goal is to create a supportive, enriching environment where we celebrate the precious joy of making music together, helping every student build resilience, express themselves fully, and cultivate a lifelong love for music.
