Faculty of Music

About the Faculty of Music

At Laurier’s renowned Faculty of Music we are dedicated to fostering artistic and scholarly development of the highest calibre and to providing a creative environment for student success.

As global innovators in community music and music education, we offer opportunities to enhance student creativity and choice with partnerships at schools like Metalworks Institute and Randolph College For The Performing Arts. Laurier will connect you to the future of music.

As leaders in performance and collaborative music-making, our students and faculty present upwards of 100 concerts and events a year to the community and beyond.

Programs

Two undergraduate programs: a Bachelor of Music and Ontario’s only Bachelor of Music Therapy. The Bachelor of Music offers many concentrations including Canada’s first in community music, composition, music education, integrated musical arts, music history, theory and critical analysis, performance and self-directed studies.

For 2023, we are launching the sector-leading Navigating the Music Industry Ecosystem Certificate which offers fully online courses open to any interested student.

Our graduate programs include a Master of Music Therapy, Master of Arts in Community Music and PhD in Music with fields in Community Music and Music Therapy. We also offer two diploma programs: a Chamber Music Diploma and an Opera Diploma.

Research

We are home to the Manfred and Penny Conrad Institute for Music Therapy Research and the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community research centres.

An Innovative Partnership

Laurier's Faculty of Music has created a unique articulation agreement with Mississauga-based Metalworks Institute.

Students can now blend a Laurier Bachelor of Music degree and a Metalworks Audio Production and Engineering Diploma in as little as four years.

Making Space for Music

The Making Space for Music campaign will transform our current facilities into vastly improved spaces for practicing, rehearsing and performing – providing more opportunities for music students to develop their craft and enabling the public to play a greater part in Laurier’s music programming.
