I am honoured to be a part of Laurier’s Faculty of Music!
I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Montréal’s McGill University and a master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York City, and have been performing, composing and teaching music for over 30 years. I am a multiple JUNO award winner and nominee, and my saxophone playing can be heard on over 130 recordings.
As a bandleader, I’ve released two albums on the Cellar Music label, both to critical acclaim; Rituals (2023) and Next Exit, which was nominated for a 2011 Juno Award. My latest recording is a duo album featuring pianist Jon Cowherd called Reunion.
I have extensive experience as an adjudicator at various music festivals throughout North America and currently serve on the jazz faculty at Interprovincial Music Camp as well as the Stratford Summer Music Festival’s Jazz Academy.
I have been fortunate to have worked with many world renowned artists including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Maria Schneider, Christian McBride, Kenny Werner, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Al Jarreau, Michel LeGrand, Nicholas Payton, Brian Blade, as well as Ray Brown, Sonny Fortune, Randy Brecker, Renee Rosnes, Johnny Mathis, Russell Malone and Joey DeFrancesco, among many others.
I have performed extensively in Canada, the United States, Japan, Thailand, South America, Europe, South Korea and China, including a nine-month tour with legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.
I am an active freelance musician, clinician and guest artist, and perform regularly with artists that include Emilie-Claire Barlow, the Carn-Davidson 9, Hilario Duran, Laila Biali and The Shuffle Demons.
I look forward to working alongside the students and faculty at Laurier and to help students find the pathways to become the most authentic versions of themselves. I encourage students to be open, curious and community minded. I am constantly excited, inspired and energized by my students, and I think this shows in my teaching.
