I’ve collected composition degrees from Laurier (undergrad), Wesleyan (master’s), and Princeton (PhD). I lived and worked in New York City for almost twenty years, writing for music for people and computers, working with dancers, running live sound at shows, organizing festivals, recording concerts, mixing and mastering people’s music, and teaching.
The last time I taught at Laurier I enjoyed the people I worked with, both students and colleagues. In my teaching I default to treating everyone as a peer: we all love the subject, we all want to get better at it, and new ways of seeing and doing things can come from anyone in the room. I love it when students take ideas and make them their own through quirky personal projects and novel applications. I love it when people get curious and ask questions. I don’t love it when students disrespect each other (or me!).
