Print | PDFSierra Olsthoorn began her musical education at the age of 5 under the direction of Liz Biswas before continuing to study with Anita Buttemer and Bénédicte Lauzière. She is now in her final year at Wilfrid Laurier University completing an Honours Bachelor of Music with a Specialization in Orchestral Performance, studying under Jerzy Kaplanek. She has been concertmaster of the WLU Symphony Orchestra and has played with the K-W Symphony, Stratford Symphony Orchestra and Waterloo Chamber Players. Winner of the Stratford Symphony Orchestra concerto competition, Sierra will perform as soloist with the orchestra in May 2024. Sierra has also performed as soloist with the KW Chamber Orchestra, KWS Youth Orchestra and with the WCI Senior and Chamber Orchestras.
Sierra has participated in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Domaine Forget de Charlevoix Academy and Orford Academy. She received the Ken Murray Incoming Student scholarship and has received scholarships from the Laurier Faculty of Music, K-W Kiwanis Music Festival, the Suzuki Association of Ontario, and the KWS Youth Orchestra.
