PhD in Management, Financial Economics
After finishing my bachelors, I wanted to continue my education and pursue a master’s degree in Economics. I decided to choose Wilfrid Laurier because I found the program format appealing: course work in a wide variety of economics courses, possible finance and MBA electives as well as a major research paper.
There is a great support system in place, both with finance professors and the Business and Economics office as a whole. I always feel like if I ever have any questions or concerns there is always someone I can reach out to for help and that they legitimately care about me.
During my master’s degree in Economics at Laurier, I was able to take corporate finance and financial management courses which I really enjoyed and which helped further grow my interest in finance.
These courses helped introduce me to many different areas of finance that I had not previously given much thought, such as capital structure, executive compensation, firm distress and success, etc. They also made me realize just how vast and exciting many areas of finance can be whether its the well established areas of corporate finance and investments or new areas of behavioural finance.
