Print | PDFGolden Hawks are so grateful for everything that Wilfrid Laurier University donors have made possible in 2025. But emergencies can strike at any time – and winter can be the most difficult time of year for students in financial crisis.
The 100 per cent donor-supported Leanne Holland Brown Student Emergency Fund has helped more than 500 Laurier students cover basic needs and overcome financial hardships over the last six years. Often, the team in the Dean of Students Office sees that number trend higher in the winter months.
Make a gift to the Leanne Holland Brown Student Emergency Fund before Dec. 31 at midnight to qualify for a 2025 tax receipt. You could be the reason a Laurier student makes it through next term.
Students can do everything right and still be displaced by a burst pipe in the unit above theirs, or be unable to keep their part-time job because they slipped on the ice and broke a bone. Each student’s story is unique, but everyone who has accessed this support is so grateful for the Laurier donors who helped them out of crisis.

The easiest way to ensure you receive a year-end tax credit is to make a gift online. Online gifts must be submitted by midnight on Dec. 31, 2025 to qualify for a 2025 tax receipt.
You can make a donation via e-transfer by completing this form, in addition to sending your actual Interac e-transfer through your bank to give@wlu.ca with the comment “Donation – FULL Name.”
If you are making a gift by cheque, your cheque must be dated before Dec. 31, 2025 and the envelope must be postmarked or date-stamped no later than Dec. 31, 2025 to be eligible for a 2025 tax receipt.

If you are making your gift in person, please note that the university closes for the holiday season Dec. 23 at 4:30 p.m. and will re-open on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. For your convenience, in Waterloo, donors can drop off their donations at Special Constable Service, 232 King St. N., Waterloo; in Brantford, donors can drop off their donations at the Special Constables drop box at 45 Market St., Brantford. We do not have a drop box on our Milton campus.
If you are making a gift of stock, the gift must be signed over via brokers on or before Dec. 31 in order to receive a 2025 tax receipt. To make a gift of stock, fill out the form for the donation of securities.
