Laurier expert alert: Black History Month

WATERLOO — Each February, Black History Month honours the legacy and continuing contributions of Black Canadians. Wilfrid Laurier University has experts available to comment on topics related to Black History Month, including history, immigration, culture, spirituality and identity. 

The following list includes Laurier experts who are available to speak at this time but does not represent the full breadth of expertise that exists at the institution. • Maurita Harris: Health and racial equity, social justice, and inclusive technology design.
• Florence Juma: Spiritually integrated psychotherapy, African oral traditions, Afro-Indigenous response to trauma, historical theology, mental health and well-being.
• Magnus Mfoafo-M’Carthy: African ideals of family, postcolonial and critical race theories, mental illness, disability and stigma among immigrant communities.
• Ciann L. Wilson: Intersectional and anti-colonial theories, community-based health and well-being research focused on Black, Indigenous and racialized communities, equity in the education and health sectors.
• Dana Elizabeth Weiner: Race and rights in the United States during the 18^th and 19^th century, African American history, rights and activism in the American midwest and west, and the anti-slavery movement.
