WATERLOO and BRANTFORD – Wilfrid Laurier University will celebrate the accomplishments of approximately 3,825 graduating students at spring convocation ceremonies in Waterloo and Brantford.
Two Brantford campus ceremonies will take place at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts on June 3. The Waterloo campus will host 13 ceremonies between June 9 and 13 at the Lazaridis Hall Auditorium.
As of May 27, 3,227 students qualified to graduate in Waterloo, while 598 qualified to graduate in Brantford. Laurier expects to confer 3,085 undergraduate degrees, 650 graduate degrees, and 90 diplomas.
In Brantford, spring convocation will mark the 10,000th graduate of the campus, the culmination of a year of celebrating the 25th anniversary of Laurier Brantford.
Four outstanding Canadians will receive honorary degrees at spring convocation ceremonies: business leader Tom Jenkins; foreign service leader John Tennant; peace advocate Kim Phuc Phan Thi; and journalist Mary Hynes. Laurier will present the Order of Wilfrid Laurier University to Joe Dragon, a public service leader who has been instrumental in supporting Laurier’s research partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories, and Michel Desjardins, a Laurier Professor Emeritus and leading scholar of religion and culture.
Convocation ceremonies will also honour University Research Professor Alison Blay-Palmer; Faculty Award for Service Excellence and Community Engagement recipients Louise Dawe and Azim Essaji; and Distinguished Governor Award winners Paul Elliott and Patricia Polischuk.
