WATERLOO – There has been a significant discussion around transgender identity following the release of Vanity Fair’s cover photo of Caitlyn Jenner.

Several Laurier professors are available to comment on a wide variety of topics surrounding transgender identity.

Patricia Elliot, professor in Laurier’s Sociology and Cultural Analysis and Social Theory program, is an expert in gender, transgender, psychoanalysis and feminism. She is the author of Debates in Transgender, Queer and Feminist Theory. Contact information: 519-884-0710 x3682 or at pelliot@wlu.ca.

Robb Travers, associate professor in Laurier’s Health Science and Psychology program, is an expert on transgender and LGBTQ communities. He is a co-principal investigator with the Trans PULSE project, a community-based research project that was established to respond to problems within Ontario transgender communities regarding access to health and social services. Shahnaz Khan, professor in Laurier’s Women and Gender Studies and Global Studies programs, is an expert on the human and sexual rights of Hijras in Pakistan, who identify as female, male or third gender. Contact information: 519-884-0710 x2374 or at skhan@wlu.ca.
