    Housing Options for International Students

When you move away from home to attend university—whether it’s a move across town or across the world—it’s important to have a safe, reliable place to live. It’s also nice to have different housing options so you can choose what best matches your needs and wants.

Laurier has housing options for every year of your degree, as well as resources and support to help you find the right place to live.

    First-Year Option: Residence

We guarantee you a spot in residence for your first year as long as you submit your residence application and non-refundable deposit by June 1, 2026. You also need to be attending a postsecondary institution for the first time. And the deadline to apply is a firm one, even if your offer letter has a later date to accept your offer, so if you want to live in residence be sure you apply on time!

Our Brantford campus has apartment-style residences while our Waterloo campus has both dormitory-style and apartment-style residences. Currently there is no residence available at our Milton campus.

Apartment-style residences are furnished apartments shared between 2-7 students and have a shared kitchen and living space. Dormitory-style residences are single or double furnished bedrooms for one or two students with access to common or shared washrooms and shared common space.

    Upper Years Option: Housing Guarantee

For the upper years of your degree, we offer a housing guarantee exclusive to international students in both Brantford and Waterloo. With the housing guarantee, you’ll live on campus in residence in your first year and live off campus in apartment-style housing in your upper years. The off-campus buildings are managed by Laurier, so you’ll have a safe, comfortable place to live. Brantford also offers the option to live in residence in your upper years.

The Department of Residence will reach out to you each year to confirm your living accommodations for the next year.

    • Submit your residence application and deposit no later than the posted deadline.

All international undergraduate Laurier students will have access to guaranteed housing in Laurier-managed facilities for four years (or five years for select programs). The following terms and conditions must be met to access the housing guarantee each year:

    • All deadlines outlined by the Department of Residence must be met by the student, including the residence application and deposit deadline in year 1 (June 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST) for students beginning studies in fall 2025.
    • The student must begin their undergraduate studies in fall 2026; winter 2027 or fall 2027.
    • Students beginning their studies in winter 2027 are not required to live in first-year on-campus housing to be eligible for the upper-year housing guarantee.
    • Once a student has opted out of the international housing guarantee, they are no longer eligible to receive this benefit in future years.
    • Students must maintain full-time student status to take advantage of the housing guarantee.
    • Students will be subject to the Residence Agreement, Residence Code of Conduct, and/or Ezra-Bricker Residence Agreement as well as the Laurier Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct while living in Laurier residence or housing. Failure to abide by terms and conditions in those documents could result in forfeiture of housing.
    • Students will be subject to Board-approved residence and housing fees. If a student’s account is in arrears, they will forfeit the housing guarantee for future years.
    • Students participating in a graduate program or the Bachelor of Education program are not eligible for the international housing guarantee.

    Any Year Option: Off-Campus Housing

Living off campus in any (or all) of your years at Laurier might be the right choice for you—and we’re still here to support you! The Laurier Off-Campus University Students (LOCUS) program is designed to connect you to the campus community, especially if you live off campus during your first year. LOCUS is free and offers academic, social and personal support to ensure you can still be part of Laurier’s on-campus experience.

When you’re ready to look for off-campus housing in your upper years, we have resources, workshops and support to help you search for housing, safely view properties, understand your lease and more.
