This page contains important information for applicants who received an offer of admission with an English proficiency condition.
You are required to submit evidence of your English proficiency to the Recruitment and Admissions office by the date listed on your offer letter. You should review your offer letter carefully to ensure you understand all conditions listed.
The following options satisfy your English proficiency condition:
Laurier’s undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions office is committed to assisting applicants whose ability to take an English proficiency test has been impacted by the closures of English language testing centres due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Students have the option to take the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test once they arrive at Laurier in August. If applicants have any concerns about meeting deadlines pertaining to their application, they should contact email@example.com.
Submit a minimum score on an accepted test of English proficiency to Laurier's Recruitment and Admissions office.
Submit supporting evidence that you studied in an English-language school system for at least three years. The Admissions office will review your documents and evaluate if they satisfy your English proficiency condition. We may request additional supporting documents at our discretion, including English-language tests.
You can take the CAEL Computer Edition (CE) test online to meet your English proficiency condition.
CAEL Online has recently launched in Canada and there are several test dates available for you to choose from. CAEL Online features the same test format, content and rating scale as the in person test, so any preparation work you have done will still help you. There are also a variety of resources to help you prepare for the test.
If your score meets Laurier's minimum requirement for CAEL CE, you have met the requirements for your English proficiency condition and you can begin studying in your academic program full time in September.
If your score is below the minimum requirement, you will begin studying in the Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) program in September. The LEAF program is offered at our Brantford campus.
Your CAEL test score will be available eight business days after you write the test and will be submitted automatically to Laurier by selecting Wilfrid Laurier University during registration. To ensure Laurier has your test results on time, be sure to write the online test by August 16, 2020.
In order to secure your test date, please complete registration for a CAEL Online test sitting. If there are no longer sittings available before August 16, please contact CAEL customer service for support in manually adding you to a sitting.
You can register for the Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) program, which is offered at Laurier's Brantford campus. The LEAF Program is an academic English program for future Laurier students.
Once you complete level 5 of the LEAF program, you have met Laurier's English proficiency requirement and can begin studying in your academic program full time. You will begin in a LEAF program level according to your most recent English proficiency test score. If you do not have a test score, you will complete an assessment to determine your level when you arrive at the Brantford campus.
Note: To begin your academic studies in September 2020, you will need to complete level 5 of the LEAF program in the summer term.
