Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.
Campus Ambassador
Fourth-Year Business Administration
Kingston, ON

Welcome to Laurier!

My name is Mike McConnell, and I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student with the co-op option, and I am specializing in Accounting, and minoring in Economics. This is my second year as an ambassador, and I will be giving tours of the Laurier Waterloo Campus in the winter and summer semesters.

First off, I would like to extend my congratulations. You have made an excellent choice by considering Laurier, as there truly are endless opportunities to have the best four years of your life as a Golden Hawk!

I’d like to tell you a bit about my time at Laurier and how I have gained some amazing work experience, and have been involved with some great extracurricular activities. As a business co-op student, I have had two top-notch work placements and will be on my third co-op during the fall semester. My first placement was as a financial investigations intern at Kroll. My next placement was at Ernst & Young (EY) as a staff accountant, and this is where I’ll be returning for my final co-op placement. These co-ops were great experience, since I was able to apply what I was learning in class to the workplace, earn CPA, CA hours and realize that audit is a challenging but rewarding career path to take.

As a student, I enjoy staying busy on campus and developing my leadership abilities. Over the past few years, I have been involved in business clubs, participated on a mission trip, was an icebreaker, joined a fraternity and played multiple intramural sports. Ultimately, there are clubs for everyone, and, at Laurier, students are encouraged to get involved.

Laurier has shaped me into a well-rounded and career-oriented business student that has had a blast on the long trip to becoming a professional. I am happy that you have considered Laurier and best of luck in the future!
