Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hi friends, and welcome to Laurier! My name is Sion Hartnett, and I am currently in my third year of the Criminology program. After my full four years of education, I hope to serve my home community as a police officer.

Like many of you out there, I was excited and nervous about what would come after Grade 12. I had visited many other schools on my journey to find the university for me. It was at the Laurier Fall Open House that I knew I wanted to be a Golden Hawk! Coming from the small town of Rockton, Laurier’s Brantford campus was a big change! I didn't know how well I would fit in or if I would like living away from the small two-hundred people town I called home. However, as the months passed, I found myself calling Laurier home, and my new friends my family.

Throughout the year, I also discovered how many opportunities there are for a student to get involved on campus! Many students, including myself, found excitement and reward out of the opportunities offered by the university. I found myself becoming drawn towards volunteering as a tour guide for our open houses. By doing this, I could express my love for Laurier and show prospective students what they could be a part of!

As a Laurier student, I continue to discover what it truly means to be a Golden Hawk. There is nowhere I would rather learn, live and grow than at Laurier. I hope to see you around campus, and remember to stay golden!
