Look into Laurier

Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

The Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) program is an academic English program for future Laurier students. If you don’t meet Laurier’s English language proficiency requirements, the LEAF program can help.

We offer four terms every year:

  • September – December (14 weeks)
  • January – April (14 weeks)
  • April – June (8 weeks)
  • June – August (8 weeks)

Before you start the LEAF program, submit your most recent IELTS or TOEFL score to leaf@wlu.ca to determine which of our 5 levels you will start in.

Your IELTS Score Your TOEFL Score LEAF Level You Will Start In
6.0 65 5
5.5 50 4
5.0 35 3

If you don't have an English Proficiency Test score, you will write our placement test to determine your level when you arrive in Brantford. When you successfully complete a level, you will progress to the next level. When you successfully finish level 5, which includes completing a course for credit that can be used towards your degree program at Laurier, you have met Laurier’s English proficiency requirements and can move on to undergraduate studies.

How to Apply

If you are applying to Laurier through our International Application website, check the "LEAF" option. If you are applying through the OUAC website, complete the LEAF Program Registration Form.
