Laurier is making daily decisions and service adjustments to contain the spread of COVID-19. Our goal is to keep the Laurier community informed of these updates in a timely and accurate manner. Visit the wlu.ca/coronavirus website for the latest information.
We’re collecting stories of sharing, helping and kindness submitted by members of university community, and will add more as they are brought to our attention. Please share your stories by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or tag Laurier in your social media posts.
April 1 key updates:
- Zoom web conferencing is now available to students, staff and faculty to support online learning, meetings between students, staff and faculty and to promote collaboration. Zoom is the preferred video conferencing solution for large groups (up to 300 individuals) or for people with a poor Internet connection as it allows users to call in if needed. Zoom unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and group messaging into one easy-to-use platform. To learn more about Zoom, students can visit ICT’s Zoom page. The ICT Service Desk is providing support; however, to maintain privacy, they are not able to provide contact lists and are also unable to assist with profile name change requests.
- The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on our students. As you adjust to an unprecedented end to the academic term, you remain Laurier's top priority. The university has established the Laurier COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help with three main areas of need, including emergency financial relief for students, health and wellness supports for students, and investments into teaching and learning technologies to improve student outcomes. For more information, please email email@example.com.
- Laurier Athletics & Recreation is making it possible for students to stay fit from the comfort of your own home with no gym equipment needed! Take a break and get some movement in with Group Ex instructors. There is something for everyone: yoga, cardio, HIIT, core and more. Check out the schedule on Facebook and Instagram, then tune in on either of those platforms at the scheduled time for a live workout. Please also note that in accordance with direction from the province, all of Laurier’s outdoor recreational facilities (including Alumni Field) are closed until further notice.
- Messages of inspiration: Laurier's Alumni Relations team is collecting messages of exam-time support for students from Golden Hawk alumni, faculty, staff and community members as part of the #HappyHawk campaign. Keep checking the #HappyHawk hashtag for inspirational messages on the Laurier Alumni and Wilfrid Laurier University's social media accounts.
