Changes to Parking and Building Access During Homecoming on Waterloo Campus

As Laurier gears up to welcome back its alumni and celebrate its purple and gold pride, we want to make you aware of some temporary changes to building access on the Waterloo campus and parking on city streets next week. In planning for the weekend, we have been working closely with the city, police, emergency response partners, and our special constables to help ensure the safety of our university community and the broader community. Additional safety measures include controlled access to some of our buildings, fencing on Erza Street, and restricted parking on streets near campus.

Key updates:

Parking restrictions on Ezra Street and Clayfield Avenue:

  • Parking signs will go up on Monday, September 21
  • Fines will start being issued on Tuesday, September 22 
  • These streets will be fully closed off and no parking Friday, September 25 to the afternoon of Sunday, September 27
  • There is also no parking during the weekend at St. Michael Church located at 80 University Avenue West

Day parking will be available for Homecoming guests for events on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 in any of the campus core parking areas accessible from the King Street campus entrance, so faculty and staff should anticipate these lots to be fuller this weekend. A reminder that if you do park on nearby city streets, make sure you read the posted parking signage as many streets have limited hours for parking. 

Building Access During Homecoming Weekend:

Please note that effective Friday, September 25 at 4:30pm, buildings on the Waterloo campus with perimeter-facing entrances will shift from “Open” access to “Controlled” access. The campus interior-facing doors will remain “Open” until Sunday, September 27th. During these “Controlled” access hours, members of the Laurier community will continue to have access to buildings on campus through use of a OneCard. 

Building Access Details:

  • Starting Friday, September 25, 2026 at 4:30 p.m., access to building entrances facing Bricker Avenue, King Street North, Albert Street, and University Avenue will change from “Open” to “Controlled”. If circumstances require, building access may be further restricted (move to “Restricted” access) to ensure public safety. Inner campus entrances will remain on the regular weekend schedule.
  • “Controlled” access starting on Friday, September 25 at 10 p.m., will affect the following locations: Savvas Chamberlain Music, Science Building (facing Bricker/King entrance), Science Research, Bricker Academic (facing Bricker Ave), Schlegel Building, Frank Peters Building (corner Albert/University), Arts C Wing (North entrance, facing University Ave).
  • On Saturday, September 26, ALL buildings will be in “Controlled” access, except the following which will remain “Open” access: Dining Hall, Fred Nichols Campus Centre (FNCC), Dr. Alvin Woods Building (DAWB), Lazaridis Hall (exception: “Open” Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 pm), Toyota Solarium will be “Controlled” starting at 3 p.m.

The changes will be noted on the Campus Status page, listing the status as “open” or “controlled.” More detailed information can be found on the building hours schedule page. 

Should a faculty or staff member require security assistance over the weekend due to disruptive behaviour on/or nearby campus, please alert Special Constables at 519-885-3333 or via the SafeHAWK app.
