There’s definitely a lot of pride working here because we’re basically shaping and contributing to how the world communicates with each other. We get to be part of a small piece of this behemoth that allows people to communicate differently.
The Revenue Strategy and Operations team acts as a thought partner with senior sales stakeholders to help drive revenue creation and support the sales team to help them drive more revenue.
What I really liked about the business program was that you specialize in your fourth year so you go through the general business program and you get a lot of exposure to all the different areas in business that you could potentially find a career path with. Through that progress you kind of figure out what you do like and what you don’t like and I ended up specializing in marketing. So I started my career in marketing but then I found that I was more interested in insights and data so I sort of found a career that was more aligned with that.
I remember when I was looking at all the different universities and I was visiting Laurier. I was still in high school and I was walking down the quad and there were a bunch of volunteers cheering and singing and people would come up and start talking to me. I was still a high school student, I was there with my mom, I felt super nerdy and I could just sense that everyone felt so proud of their school and that they loved being there - it was super genuine and it was a sense of community. I left feeling like Laurier has so much love and the people really do enjoy being there and that was why I decided to go there.
In my first year I didn’t have great grades, so I lost my chance at pursuing co-op. It was tough and it was really the shock that I needed to make me try extra hard because I knew I could do it. I just needed to figure out the right resources to get help. Throughout the years I turned them around and got them up beyond the Dean’s List, but first year was not good. I leaned on study groups, peers, and some great professors who helped connect me with what resources I should be looking at to help.
I love when people put a bit of their personality into their resumes. When someone goes above and beyond to make it a bit personal and change the format to fit with the company or put some sort of effort in to show that they’re applying to this job and they specifically made their resume for this job, it shows that they’re willing to go above and beyond and go the extra mile because they really want to work here.
It was a very tough week, I remember that, but when I look back at Laurier, that was probably a week that is most relatable to having a real job because you just put our heads down and you have to work with people in your organization that you don’t normally work with. People with different strengths – you’re all coming together to work on this project and so no distractions, it’s probably the most relatable (not in a scary way) to prepare you to what it can be like working on a project for a corporation.
