William J. McNally is an associate professor of finance at the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. McNally received his MA in Economics from Simon Fraser University in 1986 and subsequently worked as an economic consultant and as a research economist at the Fraser Institute. In 1993, he received his PhD in Finance from the University of Toronto. After leaving Toronto, he taught for 7 years at the University of Victoria. In 1999, he joined the faculty at Laurier.
His primary research interests are in insider trading, stock repurchases and market microstructure. McNally's research has been published in journals such as Financial Management, the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, the Journal of Financial Research and the Journal of Banking and Finance. McNally is innovative in the use of technology for teaching. He has written a fully digital online textbook titled Corporate Finance Online (published by Pearson Education) with co-author Stanley Eakins.
McNally is a co-founder and on-going supervisor of the Laurier Student Investment Fund (LSIF). Participants in the LSIF earn a course credit.
