Dr. Arushi Sharma received her PhD in Management from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of technology and innovation management, strategy, and intellectual property (IP) management, with a particular focus on open innovation, value creation and capture, and innovation ecosystems. Arushi brings over two decades of professional experience in IP and innovation strategy, advising technology firms on intellectual property and competitive strategy. Her teaching spans strategic management, entrepreneurship, and technology and innovation management.
Arushi's research examines how organizations design and manage open innovation to create and capture value. One stream of her research explores the organizational design of open innovation units, developing archetypes that explain how these units differ in their strategic intent, internal integration, and roles within broader innovation ecosystems. Her current research extends this interest to innovation intermediaries and their role in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. Specifically, she examines how intermediary organizations help firms overcome barriers to R&D investment, build innovation capabilities, access specialized knowledge and infrastructure, and navigate the challenges associated with technology development and commercialization.
