Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Dec. 18, 2015

Are you thinking about starting grad school in fall 2018? Laurier is currently accepting applications to our 40+ graduate programs.

Applications received by Jan. 15 will be assessed first though most programs consider applications until the program is full. Consult the Application Checklist to find out if your desired program has a firm application deadline.

Whether you are in the midst of preparing your application or are thinking about applying to Laurier, here is some advice from our Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies:

Funding Matters

Getting paid to go to school makes the decision to go to graduate school a little easier. An eligible student in a research-intensive master’s programs at Laurier receives an average of $14,500, with many students receiving more. The funding is typically made up of a teaching assistantships and scholarship support. Review our funding policies to learn more.

Our Supportive Faculty

Our dedicated and supportive faculty are the strength of our graduate programs. Laurier faculty balance world-class research with high-quality teaching and they are eager to help you meet your professional and academic goals.

Start that conversation with faculty early. Review our faculty’s web profiles and reach out to those with whom you share similar research and intellectual interests. If you are unsure who to speak with, contact the graduate coordinator of a program and arrange a time to chat.

After you speak with our faculty, you will see that their passion and expertise will motivate you to study at Laurier.

Your Professional Development

Professional development for graduate students is a priority at Laurier. Our award-winning, professionalization program, ASPIRE, provides a framework to help you craft an individualized learning plan tailored to navigate your professional journey and entry to the workplace.

ASPIRE assists you in identifying, developing and translating knowledge and skills into job competencies associated with a range of work options, including those in higher education, the private sector, non-profit organizations, and government.

Admissions

Your first step in the admissions process is completing the online application. Be aware that there is a 2-3 business day delay from the time you submit your online application (and pay your application fee) and when we can process the application. Once we have the application, you will receive an email from fgps@wlu.ca advising you to upload additional required documentation.

To avoid missing this important correspondence, be sure to add fgps@wlu.ca to your approved senders list in your email settings. Laurier receives your application documents in real time, and you do not need to confirm or verify completion of your application once you have uploaded all of the required (and applicable) documents.

After you complete the application process, the wait begins. Please know that Laurier faculty and staff are working hard to notify you of a decision as soon as possible.

Take that next step to achieve your academic goals and apply as soon as possible. If you have any questions, be sure to contact the program’s graduate coordinator with any questions.
