The Beckett School at Laurier invites you to come Dance with Bach! This two-day workshop (Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020) is an opportunity for singers, string players and keyboardists to explore the relationship between J.S. Bach’s music and the dances that inform it. Participants will study with our distinguished music faculty. They will also have the chance to share in the experience of dancing these beautiful dances under the guidance of world-renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière.
Singers will work with bass-baritone Daniel Lichti and countertenor Daniel Cabena. They will be asked to prepare two arias that are taken from either the oratorios or cantatas of J.S. Bach. Singers will also be led in ensemble excerpts, drawn from this same repertoire.
String players will work with violist and violinist Kathleen Kajioka and double bass and viola da gamba player Joëlle Morton, and they will focus on J.S. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin and his six Cello Suites.
Pianists, organists and harpsichordists will focus on the French and English Suites and the Partitas for keyboard by J.S. Bach.
This workshop is open to singers, string players and keyboard players at all levels who study the music of J.S. Bach. Participants are asked to send their proposed repertoire to dcabena@wlu.ca by Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. All repertoire proposals from J.S. Bach’s oeuvre will be considered.
