I completed my formal education at Wilfrid Laurier (BMus in Performance, BMus in Composition), University of Toronto (MMus), and at University of Waterloo (BFA, studio). These experiences afforded me the opportunity to spend time exploring and cultivating my artistic conceptions. Genres explored include: Jazz, Classical (especially Baroque music), and Avant Garde (or Free) music. A few examples of self directed studies have included learning Flamenco guitar technique as well as introductory skills in Sitar and Hindustani music.
In addition to classical music, my performance experience includes extensive contracts playing in show bands (pit band in musicals, cocktail/dance bands , top 40, tribute acts, country bands, funk bands, Jazz combos and bands, etc.). With an open attitude as well as discipline, Guitarists can become a part of many different genres and musical traditions.
Between these experiences on the bandstand and in the studio, I have adjudicated at various festivals and been artistic director with the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival.
My passions evolve and change through the years. Previously I spent time focusing on Baroque performance practice (as applied to the Baroque Guitar). I have applied myself to Flamenco guitar and music as well. Additionally, I have an ongoing interest in North Indian classical music (I have a Sitar and am a lifelong student). Most recently, I find my visual art studies synthesizing with my musical conceptions. I put together a lecture exploring the intersections of Fine Art and Music. This lecture introduces elements of visual art and seeks to exemplify them with well-known paintings. These elements are then applied to music.
I have received recognition in the realms of music as well as visual arts for my dedication to the crafts in addition to the works I have produced.
I facilitate an outreach program in association with the Grand River Jazz Society – the biweekly Jazz Jams in uptown Waterloo. Students are encouraged to take part in this hands-on learning experience where I lead ensembles through performances of jazz standards. Whether you’re interested in comping along, want to take your first attempts at playing over the changes, or if you’re interested in listening and getting a feel for the genre overall, you’re actively encouraged to attend.

I completed my undergraduate studies here at Laurier, and this experience shaped my early career as a musician. It’s a pleasure to be trusted with providing a new generation of students with this experience. My hope is to honour and support each student in their unique journey, and the Contemporary Guitar program is designed to fulfill this particular aim.
