I received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from McGill University. After a period of language study in Italy, I settled in London England, where I attended the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, trained at the National Opera Studio, as well as in several Intensives at The Britten Pears School. During my years in England, I began to work as a freelance repetiteur, gaining valuable experience in many diverse situations as accompanist, rehearsal pianist in scrappy independent opera companies, learning to sub in a West End pit band (almost! It was a sliding doors moment…). These were some of the most important and rewarding learning and networking opportunities. Eventually I recognized that Canada is home for me and moved to Toronto to join the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble program, where I was invited to join the music staff. In this role I was exposed to multitudes of singers, a revolving door of conductors to play for and learn from, and began to build my own repertoire.
Over my years in Toronto, I have built a freelance studio of singers of all stages and many genres, have enjoyed expanding into music directing and conduction.
I am so fortunate to spend my days learning and sharing the love of opera and theatre, here at Laurier and elsewhere.
I am endlessly enchanted with the human voice, theatre, the merging of text and music, sound, and communication. I love the discovery of how each singer or pianist learns, our shared connection to the music, and opening doors into this vast and thrilling repertoire. It is a passion of mine to help promote both play and courage in our work together, while maintaining high standards. I feel strongly about helping to prepare our students for what comes next; instilling musical skills and understanding, broadening their horizons, as well as equipping them with tools and awareness of real world application after Laurier.
Since joining the team at Laurier in 2022, I have been continually impressed with the spirit of collaboration, exploration, and expansion that is fostered among students and staff alike. I have felt the space to grow in my own teaching, and in turn I see that our students are blossoming in the rigorous but joyful work that music offers, and that defines opera/theatre.
