I specialize as a performing and touring vocalist/guitarist, educator, and music producer, working with professional musicians from many notable Canadian and international acts.
I hold a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, a Master of Music Education from Western University, and a Bachelor of Education from Wilfrid Laurier University. I have completed—and now serve as faculty for—Somatic Voicework™ through Baldwin Wallace University. I have also taught at Metalworks Institute, Appleby College, and through my private studio, among others.
I continue to balance my work in education, performance, and music production. This allows me to consistently update my own skills and knowledge, enabling me to best support my students and clients.
I’m interested in how technological knowledge and implementation can improve musicians’ techniques and performances—an interest prompted by anecdotal observations suggesting that technique is often used less optimally in response to inadequate amplified environments. I was involved in initial conversations and provided feedback for the upcoming survey A Preliminary Study on the Effects of Amplification on Professional Singers, conducted by researchers Jeanie LoVetri, Melissa Treinkman, and Doug Peck through the University of Southern California.
I continue to focus on demystifying contemporary and popular music practices, with an emphasis on technological implementation. Additionally, I’m interested in developing mentally and physically healthy strategies for incorporating technology into music-making.
I’m excited to share my skill set with others at Laurier and to continue growing and learning alongside faculty and students. My experiences in music and education have continually provided opportunities that highlight both what I can offer to those around me and my goals to contribute even more in the future. I look forward to bringing these experiences to Laurier and to creating many wonderful new ones. I’ve been following the campus construction and feel honored to be part of such a beautiful music facility.
In relation to my role, I’m especially looking forward to teaching a new course on digital music production. Technology evolves rapidly and has significant implications for how we create music and grow as contemporary musicians—both live and recorded. I believe that, through knowledge and practice, it can serve as a powerful tool in helping us reach our musical goals more effectively.
