The Beckett School at Laurier offers an intensive summer theory program designed to prepare you for the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams. Each course includes weekly classes with a review of previous levels, daily review and practice exams. Students should expect a moderate amount of homework.
While we have listed RCM levels below, the Beckett School at Laurier can accommodate teaching theory within any system including but not limited to Conservatory Canada or lessons tailored to university preparation.
Individual and group instruction is available. Classes are held in studio 12D, Beckett School at Laurier, 190 Lester Street, Waterloo. Information about required materials will be provided at the time of program registration.
It is the student's responsibility to register for RCM exams before the registration deadline.
All incoming students will be required to complete a diagnostic assessment to determine suitable grade level. Instructor reserves the right to place student in the grade most suitable. Due to the nature of the course content, all material must be covered for each grade before a student can move on to the next level. Students do not have to write exams for each grade, they only need to cover material. For example, students wishing to complete level 8 will be expected to be proficient with level 7 material.
