I hold a Bachelor of Music (BMus) from Laurier.
I have enjoyed teaching piano at the Beckett School at Laurier for 30 years. I am a certified teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) in elementary, intermediate and advanced piano, as well as elementary and intermediate theory. I enjoy exploring new and creative methods of teaching by reading and attending piano pedagogy courses and conferences.
I am one of the coordinators of the Sunday Night Piano Series, in which I encourage my students to perform. Additionally, I hold two recitals each year exclusively for my students. I also encourage my students to participate in Beckettfest, our annual non-competitive festival.
I have a very creative approach to learning and include the use of many games and incentives. I personalize instruction for each student to ensure they are engaged in learning at an appropriate level and are enjoying their experience in music. When beneficial, I encourage students to work towards formal RCM exams. My primary goal for each student is to ensure that the learning and playing of music brings joy for a lifetime.
