I received my PhD in History from the University of Toronto in 2022. Prior to joining Wilfrid Laurier University, I spent three years as a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University’s Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies.
My research examines how student exchange and cross-cultural encounters shape young people’s understandings of social change and political participation. Approaching youth politics from a historical perspective, I trace how young people have negotiated their roles as mobile agents tasked with gathering knowledge for governmental initiatives while also developing their own identities as agents of historical change. My research focuses primarily on the Middle East and Europe.
My research on youth and projects of gender reform in Iran has been published in the European Review of History. I also have forthcoming chapters in edited volumes with Cambridge University Press and Routledge. Currently, I am developing a public humanities project centered on an Inter-Asian anthology that explores how transnational cinematic spaces in Berlin create opportunities for youth from the Global South to negotiate their identities as migrants and as members of German society.
