Dr. Sodhi is an Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership. She received her PhD in Education from York University in 2026 and an MEd from York University in 2022. She received her BEd from Ontario Institute of Studies in Education in 2001. Dr. Sodhi spent several years as a K-12 educator and central staff support schools in an equity focused capacity.
As a trans-disciplinary artist-scholar her work examines the racialized and gendered dimensions of labour, wellbeing, and care in educational and workplace contexts. Her research centers Black women’s equity leadership and explores how arts-based methods such as rememory storywork and portraiture support activism and resistance within a framework of care. She is the founder of the Black Women Educational Leaders (B-WEL) collective, a national network advancing equity work across Canadian school systems through a Black feminist framework.
Her debut novel We’ve Been Here Before (Dundurn, 2026), extends her scholarly interest in storytelling, voice reclamation, and the labour experiences of Afro-Caribbean women.
