Dr. Liodakis holds a BA Honours in Political Science from York University, Toronto, Ontario Canada. He completed his MA in Political Science, an MA and a PhD in Sociology at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
He was Assistant Professor of Sociology at Queen's University, Kingston. In 2004, he joined Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada where he specializes in Research Methods and Statistics, Socio-economic Inequality, and Ethnicity and "Race."
He was Visiting Scholar in the Graduate Programme of the Sociology Department of the University of Crete, Greece in 2009 and 2015-2016.
He has served as Manuscript Reviewer for several Canadian and International books on Social Statistics, and Ethnicity and Race. In addition, he has repeatedly served as Evaluator for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
He is co-author of several editions of "Race" and Ethnicity in Canada: A Critical Introduction with Dr. Vic Satzewich, published by Oxford University Press. His current research focuses on the socio- economic status of Greek-Canadians from 1970 to present.
Dr. Liodakis has been Academic Member of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) since 2008, involved in the Research Units of Politics and International Affairs, Sociology, and Mathematics and Statistics. He is also Reviewer and Member of the Editorial Board of the Athens Journal of Social Sciences.
Currently, Dr. Liodakis is working with Dr. Theodosia Michelakaki of the Department of Sociology of the University of Crete, Greece on two projects:
- An analysis of pre-service teachers' readiness and intercultural competence.
- The socio-economic integration of Indians in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece.
In addition, with Nikos Kapelonis of the Department of Education of the University of Crete, he is working on the application of learning management systems (open e-Class) for teaching Greek as a second and/or foreign language for diasporic communities, such as the Greek Community of Toronto.
Dr. Liodakis is a Member of the Faculty of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies. He would be happy to supervise students and/or serve as committee member in the listed areas of his expertise.

Dr. Liodakis has been actively engaged in the community, being involved for several decades in the Cretans' Association of Toronto "Cnossos," the Hellenic-Canadian Federation of Ontario, and the Hellenic-Canadian Congress. From March 1997 to November 1998, he was the Managing Director of the Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto. He continues to be active in its Education and Cultural Departments, where he is working on language content delivery applications and the open e-Class learning management system.
