The purpose of the council is to provide mentorship, advocacy, advice, and engagement to students enhancing community and mentorship within Laurier's law ecosystem. Council members will work collaboratively with students, prioritizing the student experience and perspective as they navigate the decision to pursue law internationally, or domestically.

Council members are eager to provide meaningful leadership, advice, and support on the legal processes required to practice law in Canada (NCA, articling, the bar, interviewing, law practice program, networking).

Council Biographies

Steven Singh

Steven Singh

Steven Singh is an associate lawyer at Regency Law Group in Hamilton, Ontario, where he practices civil litigation, commercial disputes, employment law, and personal injury litigation. Since his call to the bar, Steven has represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and various provincial tribunals, and has developed a broad litigation practice advising both individuals and businesses.

Steven is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, where he obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Criminology before completing his law degree at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. Having navigated the international law school pathway and the NCA accreditation process, Steven is particularly interested in mentoring students who are exploring different routes to the legal profession.

Steven is actively involved in the legal and local community. He is a member of the Hamilton Lawyers Association and serves on its New Lawyer Subcommittee. He also serves on the boards of PATH Employment and Hamilton Food Share, contributing to governance and strategic initiatives that support employment access and food security in the community.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Steven maintains strong ties to the community and looks forward to supporting Laurier students by sharing his experience, mentorship, and guidance as a member of the Laurier Law Council.

Brandon Carter

Brandon Carter

Brandon Carter is a business-minded lawyer and senior executive who helps organizations navigate complex legal, people, and operational challenges with clarity and pragmatism.He currently serves as General Counsel and Vice President of Human Resources at Tri-Mach Group Inc., where he works closely with executive leadership to manage risk, support growth, and align legal and HR strategy with business objectives across a multi-entity organization. His role spans employment law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions support, contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and the design of scalable HR and governance frameworks.

Prior to moving in-house, Brandon practiced as a partner in private practice as a litigator, advising clients on various construction, corporate, and commercial matters. This background continues to inform his practical solution-oriented approach—focused not only on legal accuracy, but on advice that is operationally sound and commercially realistic.

In addition to his executive role, Brandon is a Lecturer at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he teaches Business Law to undergraduate BBA students. His teaching focuses on applying legal principles to realworld business scenarios, including contract formation, risk allocation, governance, regulatory compliance, and the legal considerations faced by founders and growing enterprises. He is particularly interested in helping students develop practical legal literacy and decisionmaking skills that translate directly into professional and entrepreneurial environments.

Brandon holds a JD from the University of Ottawa and a MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and brings a strong appreciation for how legal and people decisions shape culture, performance, and longterm enterprise value. He is especially interested in supporting leadership teams through periods of growth and change, and in modernizing legal, HR, and governance practices within complex organizations.

Amanda Rivera

Amanda Rivera

Amanda is an Assistant Crown Attorney (ACA) for the Ministry of Attorney General (MAG)–Criminal Law Division, where she prosecutes a variety of criminal cases and argues applications and motions on behalf of the Attorney General. Within her role as an ACA, she strives to implement the divisional and provincial initiatives to ensure public confidence and safety, and to uphold the Rule of Law. Amanda is a proud Alumni of the Laurier-Sussex partnership program, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University and an LLB at the University of Sussex. She completed her National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) in 2023. Following a successful Articling term with MAG Criminal Law Division, Amanda was called to the bar in 2025. As a first-generation lawyer, Amanda understands the importance of building meaningful relationships and giving back to the communities that fostered her professional career. Of note, Amanda has served as an ambassador for the Laurier-Sussex program since 2023, encouraging prospective students to pursue a legal education and providing guidance and insight into the legal profession. Being a member of the Laurier Law Council, Amanda hopes to mentor prospective and current students by helping them navigate law-related processes. She also strives to strengthen the connection among Laurier students, alumni, and legal professionals to ensure a network supporting aspiring professionals.

Andrew Tse

Andrew Tse

Andrew is an associate lawyer at McCarter Grespan Beynon Weir Professional Corporation in Kitchener, Ontario, where he practices corporate and commercial real estate law. He adopts a personalized, client-focused approach, working closely with individuals and businesses to deliver practical, tailored solutions. Alongside his corporate practice, Andrew advises on commercial real estate matters, providing strategic guidance on property acquisitions, leasing arrangements, and contract negotiations.

Andrew earned his Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University and completed his LL.B. at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, through the Laurier-Sussex law program. He successfully completed his National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) requirements in 2023 before being called to the Bar in 2025.

A lifelong resident of Waterloo, Andrew maintains deep-rooted connections within his community. He is an active member of the Waterloo Region Law Association and cultivates meaningful relationships with local business owners and entrepreneurs through diverse professional networks. In addition, he serves as an ambassador for the Laurier–Sussex law program, reflecting his enduring commitment to legal education, mentorship, and the continued growth of the profession.

As a member of the Laurier Law Council, Andrew is committed to guiding and supporting students as they pursue legal education and transition into professional practice. Informed by his own experience, he seeks to provide thoughtful mentorship, practical perspective, and measured encouragement to equip emerging professionals with the tools and confidence to build meaningful and successful careers.

Ally Buchanan 

Ally Buchanan

Ally is a graduate of the 2022 cohort of the Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Sussex partnership program, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with distinction and Bachelor of Laws with first class honours, respectively.

Ally is currently an associate with Wynne, Pringle, Jeske & Keesmaat LLP, in Ancaster, Ontario. She practices exclusively in estate litigation, capacity litigation and elder law. Ally’s practice focuses on assisting individuals in navigating contentious estate litigation and capacity issues. She has represented estate trustees, beneficiaries, substitute decision makers, and other interested parties in a variety of matters, including will challenges, challenges to powers of attorney, dependent relief claims, guardianship applications, and applications to pass accounts.
