Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

I am very pleased to be here this morning for this important occasion.
Today, we raise the Progress Pride Flag as a symbol of Laurier’s commitment to honouring the identities, experiences, and contributions of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.
Recognizing Pride Month reminds us of the responsibility we have to create an environment in which everyone can flourish by bringing their full selves as employees and students.
But we also know that there is still much work to be done. And that that work needs to happen every day.
We have students, faculty, staff, alumni and allies who have tremendous impact across many disciplines as they draw attention to the contributions that 2SLGBTQQIA+ people make, as well as the oppression and barriers they experience.
Their work informs social response and policy, and supports more equitable, inclusive and safe communities.
Thank you to everyone at Laurier who engages in this important work. During Pride Month—and beyond—we look forward to promoting this effort inside and outside the institution.
Thank you for inviting me to share in this occasion
