Just like Jason, I am pleased to be here tonight and wanted to thank everyone for joining us.
As donors and engaged alumni, you are valued and important members of the Laurier community.
Each of you play a vital part of the success of this university and for this we thank you.
I’m grateful for your support and commitment to the success of Laurier. Your engagement and generosity have gone a long way in advancing your alma mater!
Many of you in the room tonight are here because you recently made your first donation to Laurier.
Firsts are important, they establish what I hope will become a habit of giving and engagement as an investment in the future of our exceptional students
Whether you give of your time, your talent or your funds – your commitment to Laurier is helping us continue to deliver excellent, student-focused programming that prepares our students to succeed in a world of ever-increasing complexity.
It also supports Laurier’s continuing tradition of being a thriving community.
Once again, thank you for joining us tonight and for the ways that your continued support helps Laurier to inspire lives of leadership and purpose.
Speaking of lives of leadership and purpose…
As a fantastic example of Laurier’s mission, I am honoured to welcome tonight’s keynote speaker, Dr. Darrel Bricker
A Laurier alumnus and honorary degree recipient, Darrell is CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs which has offices in 38 countries and a staff of 800 research professionals. It is the world’s leading social and public opinion research firm.
Prior to joining Ipsos in 1990, Darrell was Director of Research in the office of Canada's Prime Minister. He was also a research consultant with firms in Ottawa and Toronto.
Darrell holds a PhD in Political Science from Carleton University and a BA and MA from Laurier.
We were proud to award Darrell with an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in 2010, and to name him as one of our top 100 graduates of the last 100 years.
Darrell is a prolific author, having just released his sixth book: Empty Planet: The Shock of Global Population Decline
As Election 2019 unfolds in the coming weeks, we are looking forward to drawing from his deep experience and insight into key indicators for our political future.
Please join me in welcoming tonight’s keynote speaker, Dr. Darrell Bricker.
