Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Last week we celebrated an exceptional group of people at the Alumni Association’s annual Awards of Excellence. These awards recognize alumni and students who inspire lives of leadership and purpose through their careers and work in the university community and beyond. Our award recipients this year reflect our university’s broad scope. They included dedicated volunteers, exceptional students, entrepreneurs, business leaders and visionaries.
It is a special evening where we at Laurier get to see the real influence our work has beyond these walls. It is incredibly moving to listen to people tell their Laurier stories. Some of our winners spoke of dedicated instructors who encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Others spoke of meeting their spouses and lifelong friends here. All winners, without exception, said Laurier was a positive force in their lives. Events like these reaffirm why I love working at Laurier.
Congratulations again to all of our winners and thank you to Alumni Relations and Laurier’s Alumni Association for hosting such a meaningful event. These awards celebrate just some of the more than 100,000 alumni who are making a difference in the world. I encourage you to read more about this accomplished group. It’s my pleasure to share their stories with colleagues, alumni, students and friends.
