Wilfrid Laurier University will bring together Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, community members, faculty, staff and students for A Way Forward: Sustainability through Decolonization and Reconciliation, a two-day university-wide gathering at Laurier’s Waterloo campus focused on environmental sustainability from an Indigenous perspective.
The event will create space for learning and knowledge sharing while exploring the important connections between Indigenous knowledge, environmental stewardship, sustainability, decolonization and reconciliation.
Open to members of the Laurier community as well as external community partners and guests, A Way Forward will encourage participants to consider how Indigenous perspectives can contribute to more respectful and sustainable relationships with the land, with one another and with future generations.
Throughout the two-day gathering, participants will have opportunities to engage with Indigenous knowledge and perspectives through a variety of educational and interactive experiences.
The event will feature Dr. Andrew Judge as keynote speaker. Judge specializes in land-based education and environmental stewardship, and his keynote will explore Indigenous approaches to sustainability and our relationships with the natural world.
Additional programming will explore themes related to land-based learning, Indigenous land sustainability practices, environmental stewardship and food sovereignty, while creating opportunities for meaningful discussion and knowledge sharing.
The gathering will highlight the important relationship between environmental sustainability, Indigenous knowledge and reconciliation.
Participants will be encouraged to think about sustainability beyond environmental practices alone and to consider the relationships between land, culture, community and responsibility.
More information, including event dates, programming details and registration information, will be announced soon.
