user experience designer, Concourse Global (summer job)
"Professors have relevant industry experience, promote discussion and the exchange of valuable ideas and information amongst peers. Something incredibly important to me personally is the type of environment I'm in — the Design Studio is an incredible space that fosters creativity and encourages students to work on big ideas and spread themselves out to really make sure they're communicating their ideas to the best of their abilities. I can't wait to get into the maker labs and work on projects that require me to really focus in on the intricate details of what makes a design great.
"User Experience Design at Laurier has given me the opportunity to learn from professors that get it — they don't overwhelm you, and they're incredible resources to soak up information. From this, you learn how to be a critical thinker and problem solver. This program gives you a chance to spread your wings and test your creativity in a space that supports you in whichever way you need, and has the same goals that you do — to build better, together."
"The User Experience Design program has changed the way I approach problem-solving. My favourite course so far has to be Design Thinking. In this course, we dive deep into what the Design Thinking process looks like as well as how to effectively apply it. I took this to heart when my favourite professor Dr. Abby Goodrum told us that we would be applying this knowledge right away. As a big fan of experiential learning, I was fascinated when we started to work with companies like SHORE to solve problems they were experiencing. Dr. Goodrum is very thought-provoking, considerate and charismatic. This allows me to constantly question my solutions and be comfortable and open to feedback.
"The thing I enjoy most about this program is being able to apply what I know with amazing opportunities both in classroom and outside of it. I love how what we learn can be applied to anything we’re passionate about. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants to take a design approach to solve complex problems from various industries and sectors."
