Look into Laurier

Concurrent Education (BA, BEd)

Note: Laurier has partnered with Nipissing University to deliver the Concurrent Education program for the past 12 years. Nipissing recently notified Laurier that it will not continue this partnership after the last cohort of current Concurrent Education students graduates in 2019. In light of this decision, we will not be admitting new students into this joint program for September 2015 in its current form. Should any changes occur to this plan before the Jan. 14 application deadline, we will post an update to this page. If you have questions, please email us at

The Laurier-Nipissing Concurrent Education program will prepare you for a career in education with a curriculum that combines the strength of Laurier’s Liberal Arts programming with the quality of Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education. In 6 years, you’ll earn both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Society, Culture and Environment from Laurier, and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) from Nipissing. You can apply to either the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate streams.

Our Society, Culture and Environment program is the perfect degree to accompany a BEd because it looks at the problems, topics and issues relevant to our world from a variety of perspectives. And because teachers at the primary, junior or intermediate levels are required to have an understanding of a wide range of subjects, the broader your educational background, the better prepared and more successful you’ll be as a teacher.

Better still, you can combine our Society, Culture and Environment program with other programs, options or minors such as English, History, Human Rights and Human Diversity, Indigenous Studies or Psychology.

Teachable Subjects: English, French, Geography, History, Math and Science.
