Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Criminology and Human Rights and Human Diversity

"This program opens doors many people do not know exist. Summer internships, Community Service-Learning courses and amazing professors keep you engaged and wanting to learn more. This program also has a wide variety of classes and some overlap with other programs, so you have the opportunity to learn about different topics of interest — and you’re not restricted to course selection. Courses are challenging but they brought importance and relevance to my life.

"Professors provide students with as many opportunities as they can. I was given the chance to work on my skills and abilities, and expand my horizons. I learned many skills and met new people."

Sinthu Vimaladasan (BA '17)

Criminology and Human Rights and Human Diversity; fundraising communications intern, United Nations Refugee Agency in Canada

"All of my current success is due to the inspiration and support of the faculty and international opportunities offered through the program. The Ghana internship changed my life! This intercultural experience gave me the opportunity to merge both my interests in law and human rights. I was a research assistant for the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa, specifically under Dr. Izarali's guidance.

"Faculty are so supportive. Even after my graduation, I received a lot of genuine support, enthusiasm and encourage from the faculty. I am very thankful for this!"

Sarah Martiniello (BA '17)

Criminology and Psychology

"In first year, I took one of the most interesting courses of my undergrad degree — Multiple Murder. Having the chance to jump right into learning about serial murder cases in first year was an exciting way to start such as fascinating program!

"The professors are all incredibly knowledgeable experts in their fields. They are super approachable and ready to help students in whatever way they could. The small class size at the Brantford campus gave me the opportunity to get to know my professors in more depth, which helped me a lot when I sought career and educational advice.

"This program allows your to customize your degree to your interests. You can choose from a variety of courses, such as Multiple Murder, Cyber Crime or Youth Justice. I also did a double major and having this freedom allowed me to enjoy everything I was studying."

Rodrigo Obergon (BA '22)

"I enjoyed the sheer breadth of this program the most! There's a course for anyone in Criminology, even if you're only taking it out of curiosity. This program is well-developed and has great professors; it leads to a number of good careers."
