PhD in Management, Marketing
The faculty expertise in Laurier’s marketing area is diverse both in terms of specialization and methodology. Transitioning from the industry to academia, I wanted to gain exposure across several of marketing’s core domains before choosing to focus on a specific area. I initially joined Laurier’s MSc program, and eventually transitioned to the Ph.D. I found that students are made to feel welcome and enjoy a close working relationship with faculty members. The school has a collegial atmosphere and a highly supportive environment for learning and development. Even outside the marketing area, students benefit from skill development training programs such as teaching, writing, career planning, and well-being. All these factors made Laurier the right place for me to pursue my doctoral studies.
My research interests lie in the intersection of service marketing, sales, and marketing strategy. My PhD dissertation focuses on how frontline employees and business-to-business organizations facilitate value creation for customers, which I examine through the lens of customer success management. This research has been recognized through a Doctoral Fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), as well as two competitive seed grants from the Lazaridis Institute. As a secondary focus, I study service failure and recovery, and other negative events in marketing. Other areas of interest include frontline employee burnout and well-being, sales enablement, and organizational/frontline ambidexterity.
I use a mixed-method research approach that blends both quantitative and qualitative techniques to examine my research questions. In addition, I am also interested in conceptual research that explores emerging phenomena, develops theoretical frameworks, and outlines priorities for future research, using approaches such as systematic literature reviews, overview-of-reviews, and co-citation analysis–based reviews.
Having spent nearly a decade in start-ups and management consulting, I also have an affinity for entrepreneurship-related research. Specifically, I am fascinated by marketing practices in small businesses, which I explore through teaching cases.
My career plans are to join a respected university in a tenure-track position and contribute to the fields of marketing and entrepreneurship through research, teaching, and thought leadership.
