Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

"I couldn't have asked for a better program or department to spend my time in during my four years at Laurier. Not only did I learn Spanish and become more comfortable using it, but I got to explore amazing cultures and literature from around the Spanish-speaking world. The professors in the department make an already exciting experience even better because of their passion for the topics and their students."

"I feel lucky and extremely grateful to graduate from the Honours Spanish program at Laurier. Here are some of the reasons why I feel this way.

"The faculty and staff from the Languages and Literatures department are incredibly friendly, informative and supportive. What is unique about the Languages program is the small class size, which I believe is a great advantage for the students because professors get to know you personally. Therefore each student gets individual attention and guidance. The professors from my program are not only educators, but they also strive to become students' friends. They know how to engage students in class activities, make them laugh, assist them and most importantly inspire them to learn. Learning in this kind of environment is wonderful. Additionally, it is worth to mention that by learning foreign languages I gained the tools that now allow me to see the world from different perspectives and to have a deeper understanding of the mentality and behaviour of people from other cultures.

"Despite the fact that this is a small university, there are many things to discover and enjoy here at Laurier. This school offers a variety of courses and extracurricular activities that match each student's individual needs and interests. I myself was a Spanish instructional assistant for two semesters and I truly enjoyed having this opportunity to teach. I fell in love with this school because it is a very welcoming and vibrant place. It feels great to be surrounded by friendly people and creative minds.

"Accepting the offer of admission from Laurier has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. My time spent here at Laurier has been precious and the experiences I've had at this school will always remain in my memories and my heart.

"Now I am on my way to my next adventure: the Teacher Education Program at York University in Toronto. I am extremely excited to begin a new chapter of my life, and I am certain that my Laurier experiences will help me achieve my goals.

"Follow your passion, fellow and future Golden Hawks!"

"SP288: Study Abroad was one of my favourite courses. Grammar courses are also enjoyable because you learn to improve your technical speaking skills in the language. I really enjoyed learning to speak Spanish more efficiently and learning some of the most integral characteristics of both Latin and Spanish culture."
