Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

"Choosing a university and a program can be daunting. But Communication Studies at Laurier is a degree you can take anywhere you want to go. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, students can apply what they learn in the classroom to many different industries and roles.

"I really enjoyed taking the Advanced Research Seminar as this course prepared for continuing my education. I learned how to synthesize material, co-author a large body of work and perform substantive research through a variety of methods.

"I value each and every interaction I have had with the Communication Studies faculty. Jonathan Finn was my favourite professor — he’s passionate about teaching and makes learning fun and interesting. He is always available to chat or go the extra mile to help a student succeed.

"I really valued the interdisciplinary nature of the program. It allows students with various interests and backgrounds to come together and think critically about issues in diverse and meaningful ways.”

"This program opens up many doors for students. It helped me develop critical thinking, writing techniques and advanced social skills. And Communication Studies professors are very passionate and get to know students. Some have interesting teaching styles and excellent course content. I really enjoyed how course content was applicable to everyday life and courses were taught by passionate instructors value the opinions of students.

"Laurier was the best decision for me, both from an academic and social perspective. Laurier is well known for shaping young minds that employers acknowledge and value. I’m do thankful for my time and experiences at Laurier."

"Television Studies was an incredible course. It taught me how to look at media differently through analyzing television shows – something most of us watch on a daily basis. It was insightful and interesting! And the professors are great! Yukari Seko, Communications Studies instructor, is dedicated to the well-being of her students. She encourages you to think everything through and respect different opinions."
